PLANET OF THE APES

During the mid-70s, a small British PR firm called Television Character Promotions secured the rights from Twentieth Century Fox to produce a series of live appearances and performances by costumed  “Apes” characters across England. These events proved so popular that a deal was eventually struck with Marvel Comics U.K. division, resulting in the creation of the first official Planet of the Apes Fan Club.

WHAT WE KNOW:[]

Planet of the Apes on Plymouth Hoe in 1978. Urko and the characters from Planet of the Apes entertain the kids on Plymouth Hoe.  The show started with a jousting event and was then followed by the Planet of the Apes show some time later. They used the old Hoe Theatre to get changed and ready. Also appearing at the show was Carolyn Jones who played Sharon Metcalfe in Crossroads. She was only in Crossroads from 1977 onwards so this film must date from 1977. It's a long time ago! Check out my Plymouth Local History blog at:http://plymouthlocalhistory.blogspot.com/
