WHAT WE KNOW:Edit
One of the spin-off movies will focus on the villains in the Sinister Six in this movie.
“It’s a challenge in every sense. Obviously questions of traditional hero/villain dynamics have to be looked at. At the same time it’s an awesome challenge, because some of the greatest characters are in fact villains, and how you construct that is so much fun. People love those bad characters if they’re good bad characters, and love to watch them. And nobody’s all good, nobody’s all bad, and so where we end up with that story, I think, is a really awesome challenge, and we all smile when we think about what you can do. It’s definitely a bad-ass group of people and I think it’s going to be a ton of fun to watch them. Over at IGN, producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach divulged more details regarding the upcoming ‘Sinister Six’ spin-off film, in which the villains will get their moment in the spotlight. The original Sinister Six line-up included Doctor Octopus, Electro (who we’ll be seeing in ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2‘), Sandman, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, and Mysterio. But as it’s their film, they won’t necessarily be portrayed as the villains. Tolmach says:
There’s no such thing as just a villain. There are villains by virtue of choices that people make but they always begin as humans, as characters. As flawed people; as tragic people. You know great movies have been made about a bunch of bad guys who get together to do something.
So it seems like we’ll be getting something of a more shaded approach to the Sinister Six — a group of guys who come together with more complex motivations and intentions than just, you know, being bad guys who gang up on Spider-Man. Arad clarifies that the Sinister Six are indeed united by their hatred for Spider-Man, and that their story is one driven by redemption:
And everybody’s looking for redemption; they’re unforgiven. Would you see one of the Sinister Six starting to feel like that? Yes. And people love it, by the way. They love when a villain finds his way back because we’re all very forgiving.
